Use your commuting time to work instead of paying attention to traffic. That may or may not be practical for you. Is your work location dependent? Have you looked into car sharing? I've never considered buying a new car an option. You loose so much money by just driving it off the lot. If I had to buy, it'd probably be used and domestic.
